Two Dollars and a Gift Basket
Sunday began as a wonderful sunny morning. It was still dark when the
cows came in for milking and the peaceful silence of the beginning day
as always left me in awe. New beginnings every day.
After milking I went to town for a coffee at Tim Horton’s where I can meet the locals, mix and mingle.
I started reading in the Toronto Star the latest about the scandal of tainted milk in China. I also read that Canada imports dairy products from China and is testing it for the said contamination with the chemical melamine. What is even more striking is the picture of a farmer selling fresh milk to people on the road passing by. Yes at least they have the option to protect themselves by going to the farmer directly.
As I was reading a man in his fifties came to my table and put 2 dollars down. “This is for your coffee” he said “I just know you from the newspapers and I hope you will win, we need the milk.”
As he walked away after I shook his hand I realized how this milk issue has affected thousands of ordinary people. I can be in a hardware store or walking in town, people stop, shake my hand and hope that I will win.
There is also the old Amish farmer who sends me a long hand written letter praying for success and referring to the end of times where freedom is lost.
Then there is also this wonderful woman, a chef turned farmer arriving here at the farm with a basket of breads, cheeses, cookies, jam and spelt flour. In the basket, there is also a cash donation for the Raw Milk Legal defense fund. She came to help for a day and to bring these Gifts from her friends in the Kingston area.
This shows how blessed we are. Pursuing a path of principle without the so common fear of authority has given people hope and courage and a voice. Just like one writer in the Bovine Blog said” we are all freedom fighters. Yes we are, if we know what we lost.
The gift basket from Kingston and the value of the 2 dollars is an example of so many people being thankful.
Be assured that these gestures are part of the energy which drives our will to move forward, to not stop until we have achieved the needed change.
Thanks to all the invisible supporters and to all those human souls who in their own way pave the way for change.
Thank you Michael Schmidt
