Dear Dalton McGuinty
I would like to thank you for responding publicly to our press
conference at Queen's Park on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 as Premier
of Ontario..My letter to you is not addressed to you as Premier but
rather as a person who cares and respects its citizens. Just as you did way back when we met personally in Owen Sound . At that
time, you wanted to become leader of the Liberal Party . You were
young and honest , full of intentions to serve. I looked straight
into your eyes and saw your sincere intentions . Does politics corrupt
the human soul? I don't know . . . I just hope that you remember
that inner integrity that was part of your campaign many years ago.
We did not celebrate an anniversary, as you said. We simply took the aniiversary of the Farm Raid as an opportunity to open again the dialogue to review the present status of Ontario's Milk and Health Act. I am a farmer and our Cow Share owners are people with no personal financial agenda or desire to control others. Our impact on you is minimal in respect to lobbying power; however, our stand represents a concern of many with similar issues.
I understand that you cannot be bothered with us since we are no apparent threat to your work and agenda. Your response to our press conference was that the decisions are based on expert advise. Experts have blessed us with many fatal studies detrimental to our health because experts are very often tied to corporate interests. We are people with real concerns about our food. We are not asking to dictate to others how to eat or treat themselves. We want to look after ourselves and provide others with the opportunity to do the same. This is a basic principle of a fair and just society as you had promised before you came to power through the vote of the people.
Dear Dalton McQuinty, whenever you are approached in respect to our Raw Milk issue look to whom you listen. History has shown us money talks if morals of responsibility are forgotten.
I would like to express my thanks to all the public servants who work hard to deal with many pressing issues in order to fullfill their mandate. I have never changed my mind about doing what is morally right and necessary for the future. I do not feel personally threatend by anybody pursuing us to uphold the status quo. I have learned that holding one's ground will eventually help others to take one seriously. We have not changed our mind about continuing to milk cows and serve our cow share holders. We will not stop. If you need to prove your case, we cannot stop you either, but it will demonstrate your stand on a just and fair society.
I am always open to meet and discuss the issue with those who are resonsible for change.
Respectfully Michael Schmidt
