Update of Organic Conference |
Guelph Organics Conference
Michael asked me to update everyone on the Guelph Organics Conference that happened last weekend.
It is the largest gathering of organic farmers and students and
suppliers of organic products in Canada with nearly two thousand people
going to the talks and going through the exhibits.
We were given room at the Biodynamics Society’s booth as Glencolton was too late to secure its own table. Thanks to the Biodynamics society for their solid support.
We had several volunteers all weekend that helped at the booth, Olga Ullman, Andrea Dawber, Jeff Lucas, Ernst Von Bezold, Orly Dinar, Michael Schmidt and myself. Thanks so much to everyone. We met with all kinds of policy people and leaders in organics to develop our strategy further and to get endorsements and letters of support. This was wildly successful.
Hundreds of people came to the booth to take flyers, read Olgas’ info board and to buy buttons and signs. Some gave donations. Some asked questions. All in support and wondering how this could have happened. Some signed up to be on our email list.
On Sunday morning Michael had a session entitled A Call to Youth to Rescue Agriculture, late Saturday he asked me to speak with him from the point of view of the consumer and the need to involve consumers. There were 200 people there many of them students at Guelph agricultural program. Many of our Cow share members were there and folks from the farm. Norman and Declan were both there filming the event. We took 2- ½ hours all in all with questions. There was rapt interest and a standing ovation at the end. It felt like there is a lot to do and yet a lot of people behind us.
