Dear Brett Campbell, Chief Investigator, Ministry of Natural Resources
I received a phone call today from a friend of mine who lives near
Orangeville. He told me that you and Mr. Nixon visited his farm on
Wednesday, January 17.2007. You apparently made statements with
regard to our Tuesday routine of picking up bread from him. You
threatened severe actions if there were any milk transactions happening.
I assume you are still wasting tax payers’ money tracking me down. With your continuing undercover operation, you must feel you are doing a good job, a job you are paid to do. However, it does become difficult for investigators like you when you are dealing with people who have nothing to hide.
Mr. Brett Campbell, having been doing your investigation for the past 20 months, you must surely know that we do not think that we are doing something illegal. You must surely know by now that we have been acting in good faith by providing you, openly and honestly, with all the necessary information that you need to build your case against us. We agreed that it is up to the courts now to decide the big question about the Government having too much power in the decision-making process of its individual citizens.
We are not a drug ring. We are no threat to society. We believe that we are providing a service to our cow-share holders. We are not greedy nor are we trying to evade taxes. We are farmers working hard to make a living. Yes, we are farmers trying to provide nutritious food to concerned citizens.
It is hard for me to understand the logistics of your present actions as you continue to follow us and threatening other people. All that you said you needed, I provided in good faith .If you need more evidence, let me know and maybe I can help you.
However, if your mission is to shut us down and destroy us, so be it. Let me go so far as to suggest some more effective strategies if you wish to go in that direction:
1. Obtain a court order to stop us from producing milk for our cow-share holders.
2. Be there when I ignore that court order and then arrest me. That’s the only way I can be stopped. I am not hoping to become a martyr, but society at large does need to know how far the Government is willing to go to protect its money-driven interests.
I will continue to honour my contractual arrangements with my cow-share holders. The Blue Bus will leave the farm every Tuesday around 8 a.m. as we have been doing even after the raid as you must know as a professional intelligence investigator. We are escorted by several cars driven by our cow-share holders. They are not there for our defence. They are there to simply record any actions taken by you or others following your orders.
I stopped my hunger strike with the hope of a constructive dialogue. I am still hoping . . .
Please let me know if you decide to refrain for the time being from any further action until the court’s decision later this year.
Regards, Michael Schmidt
